1741  Two English explorers, William Windham and Richard Pocock discovered "Chamouny" valley and its glaciers

 
1786  Dr Paccard & Jacques Balmat, two locals, first reached the summit of Mont Blanc, leading the first of many scientific expeditions conducted on the peak.

1924 Chamonix hosted the first ever Winter Olympics. A winter sport capital is born.

1955 Opening of the "Aiguille du Midi" cable car.
